A workshop in Fez, three complicit perspectives, one idea.
The idea was born from a friendship
It all began in 2023, between three long-time friends. A project manager and designer, an expert in manufacturing and pattern making, an engineer. Three professions, three sensibilities, one conviction: each believed in the other's talent.
It was from this trust, more than a business plan, that Kaftanona was born.
Why Kaftanona?
We started with a simple observation. Abroad, it has become difficult to find a Moroccan outfit that is both beautiful, understated, well-finished, and wearable beyond just a wedding. On one hand, very traditional pieces, sometimes too elaborate for everyday wear. On the other, ready-to-wear for 30 or 50 euros, poorly cut, which undermines the image of our heritage.
We wanted a third way. Kaftans, kimonos, and original creations designed for today's women – those who love their roots but don't want to overdo it. Simple, minimalist, refined pieces. Beautiful because they are understated, not despite it.
And a service we couldn't find anywhere else: the ability, from abroad, to have your piece custom-made, with step-by-step guidance. As if the workshop in Fez was just around the corner.
The Fez Workshop
All our manufacturing takes place in Morocco, in a single workshop in Fez.
We didn't choose this workshop by chance. It is managed by a Fassi Maâlem, heir to a savoir-faire passed down through three generations. Our families have known each other for years. This relationship, built on trust and respect, is undoubtedly our most precious asset.
Around him, more than seven people work every day: embroiderers, seamstresses, finishers. Expert hands, whose precise touch makes the difference between an ordinary piece and a piece to be cherished.
Fez is not just any city for the caftan. It is one of its mother cities – where silk thread embroidery, Sfifa, Tarz, and Aakad were elevated to an art form. Working here means choosing the rigor of a living tradition.
Each piece is unique
A Kaftanona piece requires between 5 and 30 days to make, depending on the complexity of the design. Before shipping, each one is hand-inspected, to maintain a quality level worthy of our signature.
Our stocks are deliberately limited. We prefer to make what is beautiful rare, rather than making what is not truly beautiful widely available.
What drives us forward
We know our biggest challenge: making ourselves known in a saturated and noisy market.
But we also know our pride: those returning customers, those who trusted us with their first order, who tried the custom-made experience, and who left with a piece that truly reflects them. Truly.
We owe this brand to each of them. And it is for them that we continue.
